Jack Hammer

The country’s longest-standing rock band

Jack Hammer

Founded in 1984, Jack Hammer is the country’s longest-standing rock band, its existence spanning three decades with Piet Botha at their helm. During the 1990s Jack Hammer opened for Deep Purple and Uriah Heep on their “Masters of Rock” tour and were also privileged to be the supporting act for ZZ Top on their South African tour.

Jack Hammer has seen many, many members come and go in it’s 33 year history, but it’s founder, the legendary Piet Botha alias the ‘Hammer’, is still rocking steady to this day. Much of Botha’s and Jack Hammer’s magic has been captured on albums such as ‘Jack of All Trades’, ‘Ghosts on the Wind’, ‘Death of a Gypsy’, ‘Anthology’, ‘The Pilgrim’ and the latest masterpiece ‘Handful of Rain’ which was released in 2016.

The current Jack Hammer members are Piet ‘The Hammer’ Botha, Johnathan Martin, Paul ‘The Duke’ van de Waal, Tertius ‘Bean’ du Plessis & Jacques Groenewald (aka Jake Gunn).
